I’m always seeing patterns. I’m wired that way. Physical patterns, data patterns, sequences in time. I notice them and appreciate them. Patterns were a big part of my working career.

So, when I saw this wall in Bairro Alto, I had to pause and capture the moment. I stood there, fascinated by the pattern. Then, just about to click the shutter, I notice the missing tiles.

It actually bothered me. Who had the audacity to damage this lovely, yet random sequence. Then the practical side of my brain kicked in and I decided that the flaw created that bit of mystery that enhances the photo, rather than detract from it.

So, there it is, as it was, missing pieces and all.
