Back to Porto and wandering the 10th-century streets near the river, Medieval houses and gothic doorways interspersed with restaurants and souvenir shops make for quite the contrast.

But, then again, ancient businesses and homes lined these very streets long ago, so not much has changed in that aspect.

As I’ve said before, I like going off the beaten path, finding interesting side streets. This was no exception; just above the busy riverfront, filled with restaurants, tour operators, and street vendors, this side street is still busy enough but offered the opportunity for a few “people free” shots.

Both the building to the immediate left and just beyond, are representative of old Porto. There is such diverse architecture here and the many construction cranes are updating the old structures as well as building new, as the city continues to thrive and reimagine itself. It a beautiful place to visit and explore.
