“Pause” – Pena Palace, Sintra

Surprisingly, another opportunity for a candid shot presented itself today.
I watched this traveller come down from the walls of Sintra’s Pena Palace and sit down for a rest. I imagined the shot, but did not want to be intrusive. I decided that if he sat like this for a longer period that I would take the shot and see how it looked. It was nice that he kept his head down, so you can’t see who he is.
He seemed well prepared for travel, yet weary. It was already hot 28°C at 10:30, when this image was made, so he may simply have been resting or catching his breath. He was still sitting there when we left.

Yes, I’m glad he kept his head down too.
