“The storms of life come and go and remind us to enjoy the beauty of good times” – Ed Lehming

I need to remind myself constantly that bad times, the “storms” of our lives, are temporary. Time moves on, and better times often follow. This applies to a lot of things, including my creative work. As I noted in my earlier post “After the Storms”, I had gone through yet another creative lull— not a storm, but more plain old dullness. Then the clouds eased up, and I was presented with wonder once again.

The image above was made from the same spot, about 30 seconds later, just looking to my left, along the road where I was parked. That same golden light from the wheat and the bold purple clouds are a significant part of the composition as well. The scene, and being able to capture it effectively, did wonders to jump-start my creative practice once more. It did take me a full month to start writing again, but here I am.

There are many more photos that I have made since that day, and I plan to write about them on a daily basis. I find it’s a healthy, often neglected practice for me to pause and reflect on the things I have seen, as well as talk about the emotions and reflections of what has made these moments significant to me.

You will see a lot more iPhone images from me since I have my device with me more often than I have my heavy professional kit, and frankly, I’m impressed with how well my iPhone captures what I see, when I see it.
