“Atelier de Santo António“ – Lisboa
I love getting to destinations by back streets. They tend to offer a more authentic view of the city than the broad commercial avenues with their crowds and endless souvenir shops.
We found this scene while heading up the hill to the Castle of São Jorge. As steep climb from our apartment near the Tagus River, but more interesting.
The Atelier itself was, at one time, a small artisan ceramic shop. It seemed a bit worse for the wear when we passed by, and the windows were covered in cardboard.

Certainly gives it that old-time look when things fall into disrepair. Looks like the people in the yellow house care, but the others … not so much. I’m not sure how comfortable I would be with hanging wet clothes onto a wire clothesline that was so close to electrical wiring.
There is no rhyme or reason with some neighborhoods. We see whole blocks in disrepair right next to beautiful apartments. 🤷🏼♂️
Everyone has their own ideas. I suppose it can be hard on those who like their place to look cared for, when they are surrounded by homes of people who don’t care.
