I’ve been invited to participate in a workshop with a local professional photographer. My one on one session with her focussed on my art and process. That seems pretty solid. Her feedback about some of my photos are that they need to be BIG, allowing the details to cause the viewer to be pulled deeper into the image as well as staying true to the ‘art’ of my photography.
As I’ve said before, I have no issue modifying my photos to more effectively communicate the feeling of the image as I made it. After all, I’m not a photojournalist.
My task was to look at some of my older images and restate them as I would today, given more proficiency in tools and workflow. I have to admit, that’s a bit of a struggle, because the images, to me, have their own feel and It felt odd to adjust them, but it was a worthwhile exercise. The image above was the outcome of re-imaging an older photo from 2013. The original is below.
I left the image fairly intact, got rid of the watermark and cropped to tighten on the lower flowers. Then added a layer with a softer, more impressionistic background. What do you think?

A daisy is a daisy is a daisy? Only in English any flower that isn’t a rose or a tulip seems to be called daisy. It makes translations of novels difficult, because they usually don’t contain photos. Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer, do! 🙂
Ed, I always enjoy your photography and your original daisy shot is no exception. I would agree that tighter cropping is way better, but I myself am not a big fan of making photographs look like paintings, so I do not really like the impressionistic background. Here, my honest opinion 🙂 I am looking forward though to see what else did you learn in that workshop 🙂

The quoted sentence speaks volumes to me especially underscoring ‘have their own feel’…thus the originality that only a true artist understands and knows! You are a true artist! The recreated photo is nice and an original creation. The latter seems more ‘recreated artistically’, which I find myself venturing into as well! I actually like both of them but if I was given the option of the two would go with the original (former)! Great blog! Congratulations on 1000 followers! I am so pleased that your friend suggested the blog! I look forward to seeing your work!
