“The Crossing”

“Our lives are made of moments, all are on a scale from rapturous to devastating. There is a resilience that can come be built by holding up those moments to the light, carefully considering their place and meaning in time, and sorting them accordingly. It’s up to us to chose what to do with those moments.” – Ed Lehming
Memories of January 17, 2025. The day my mother left this life. A time of complex feelings, yet life also provided me such beauty at the time of this loss.
The memory of the moment she passed over will always linger with me. I’m so happy for this particular image because it was made at the same time she passed. I can look back on it and reflect on that singular moment, sometimes with sadness, but more often with joy for all the memories of the times I got to spend with her. The significance of that moment varies with whe I look at it.
I had time to myself on that Lake Okanagan shore, knowing what was about to happen in her hospice room and trying to come to terms with the permanence of it all. During that time, I purposely made photos of the world around me, primarily as points of reflection to recall those moments, as I’m doing today.
I rendered this image in a bit of a different way here. The dominant theme for me, today, represents a crossing over.

A beautiful way to remember your beautiful mom when you see this picture. I think that’s a blessing.
